  1. Hey guys,

Thanks for the succinct review, which broadly matched my thoughts. A couple of comments:

I note that the Doctor, Amy and Rory did not lay eyes on Oswin at any time during the story. I suspect that will be significant. I also think that is why the BBC was able to keep her appearance a secret – her scenes were probably filmed separately to the others.

Amy’s vision of the dancers was probably one of the best fantasy sequences ever shown in Doctor Who. Great writing and direction, but too short.

The ABC in Australia is broadcasting the episode a week behind Britain, but started showing it on their website hours after being screened by the BBC. It was an attempt to reduce unauthorised downloads, and IMO is a fantastic idea.

Also, I hear Neil Gaiman is writing an episode for this series. Hope he can turn the script in on time and on budget!

  2. FINALLY! The “return” of The Doctor’s Companion! I’ve been waiting for this for what seems like ages. I mean, it’s not as if you guys would ever think about doing episodes of this podcast while the current series is off the air. It’s not as if there’s a huge history of the show to pull from and make podcast episodes of. That would be CRAZY!
So was anyone else surprised that there was this guy called the Doctor in this episode? Spoilers I guess. I mean this guy has this glowy stick thing and he rambles a lot. I guess that sort of thing might be good for an episode, but I doubt it’ll catch on. Also, where was all the healing and doctor stuff in this show? Why weren’t we in a hospital? I guess an asylum is sorta like a hospital though. Do you think they will get Doctor House as a guest star sometime? I mean, this is a show about doctors right?

    • In all seriousness though, I really liked this episode, but it is much better the less you think about it. It was good, not great. The more you think about it though, the more weird things you notice and the more the episode starts to fray around the edges.

Still, it’s nice to have new episodes of Doctor Who to watch again.

  3. I’m currently on Season 4 of New Who but decided to watch this episode anyways. Even though they never saw Oswin, the audience did, so they can’t exactly throw the actress in as a different character without explanation. So my guess would either be twin sister or some sort of time travel stuff.

  4. My problem with episode is that doesn’t seem like it should be a season premiere.

Os seems like River Song Version two. You are right with been there done that feeling of the episode.

And I feel like they are writing angst for Amy just for the sake of it. I mean it has been established that Rory waited for her for 2000 YEARS!
